Is Pinocchio the forerunner of Robo Sapiens?

An artificial creature, made out of wood, that turned into a living boy – this man made creature is known as Pinocchio by Italian author Carlo Collodi. The piece was adopted recently by Steven Spielberg in the movie A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) and the director was able to capture some great momentum of its idea, that involves creation, love, lethality, poetry of existence and deals with the function of mother in nature. Did I mention that the script was originally developed by Brian Aldiss and …. Stanley Kubrick!? We are talking about fiction clearly, but reality has come very close in creating the physcial evidence that Pinocchio will materialize in the very near future. Peter Menzel has captured this in fantastic pictures in his picturebook Robo Sapiens. The struggle of science to create Artificial Intelligence though, vital in any discussions of robotics, is evident. Still it seems almost impossible to create cyborgs that deal with emotions and conflicts of soul that make us human. Share scepticism with Joseph Weizenbaum or do you believe that this will be feasible?I believe that Pinocchio is still some lightyears away – great, that we do not have to wait for fiction then! And this is why I need to mention Philip K. Dick once more, the greatest author on this field. Did you know that Paul Giamatti has bought the rights to do a biopic of Dick? Good choice, Paul, enjoy the amphetamines!
